Strive as It Might

Marco Giancotti,

Monkey hanging from a branch reaching down toward the moon's reflection in water below

The eyeball'll never see

the color of its iris.

The hand will never scratch its back.

The skull will never kiss its nape.

The clock will never measure

its keeping of true time.

Unless, that is, they get external help.

But what about

the living mind?

They say that there is such a thing

that it is like

to be what someone is.

They say that science can't explain

the simple fact

of feeling like a bat.

The mind predicts,

divides,

and works its simulations.

It operates upon the world in ways that science can expound.

And yet

the mind will never think itself.

Unless, that is, it gets external help. ●
